The primary journals are essential in my 1st grade Dual Language classroom because we are still developing students handwriting as well as putting ideas together in their second language. In the journals the students are able to express their ideas by writing and drawing what they want. It also allows the students to see their progression in their writing as the school year progresses. I use the regular composition notebooks for math class. The students are able to take notes, practice math problems, and paste activities that they have completed. Having a journal allows them to always share with their classmates what they have created.
