While developing curriculum and attempting to include more student choice, I realized the need for more diverse titles and authors in my classroom library. My goal with this is to create independent reading choice and encourage students to discuss experiences that are different from their own. The voices in the literature we read in school are crucial for students to develop empathy as well as critical thinking skills. The titles and authors on the list of books I have chosen for my classroom library represent the differences that not only appear in my classroom, but in the community.
