My best friend and I have the privilege of teaching together at A.K.F.C.S. As educators, we acknowledge it is our duty to ensure our students are educated about the history of race and systemic injustices. We believe that silence perpetuates this very real problem, and we are committed to making positive changes. We know and love that our students (and their families) trust us to teach them, lead by example, and listen to their needs as learners and young members of our community. We pledge to use our educational platform (distance learning), to actively pursue change and to work tirelessly to create a positive and inclusive mindset for our young learners. One way to do this is by adding more books about diversity and inclusion in our classroom library. We will use these beautifully created books during distance learning for our Interactive Read Alouds that will focus on teaching our students the importance of embracing our differences, supporting each other, and loving ourselves. Please consider helping us reach our goal to add to our existing classroom library.
While we have some books already that support this cause, we would like to build a more comprehensive collection for distance learning that truly reflects and represents our student population and uses kid-friendly language to teach this meaningful topic.
