These books will allow my students to see themselves within the pictures of our classroom library. My classroom library is a place the students enjoy and use every day - we read their together during morning meeting, it is where they play during recess, and where they read independently in the afternoons. It is a safe place where many of them find comfort. With these new books, my students will be able to enjoy new and old stories with characters who look like them, have the same beliefs as them, and have families similar to their own. These books will also allow for important conversations to had within the classroom about what has and is happening within our community and country. My students are an incredibly diverse group of kids and with the help of this project, the books they read will also have diversity.
