The materials and supplies that I am wanting to provide my students the opportunity to use will promote a positive classroom environment. My students are diverse and need to learn how to be accepting of others that are not like themselves. We are requesting card stock, a Kindness Jar and a classroom set of the book Finding Your SPOT in the World A Story About Diversity.
My plan is to use the book, "The Kindness Snippet Jar" in my classroom as a teacher read-aloud. This will promote students to compliment each other and use kindness. I will use the card stock for writing lessons, and to have our own kindness snippet jar and cards. Students will be encouraged and allowed to write kindness snippet cards during the day
My students will then use the book, "Finding Your Spot in the World, a Book About Diversity", in reading lessons to build our classroom community. Students need to develop the life skill of empathy. One of my reading and writing lessons will be to have students read the story multiple times to build fluency, and to describe what makes them unique. They will them complete an "All About Me" poster.
My students will then give a presentation about themselves to help strengthen our classroom community while noticing similarities and differences between each other. This will also strengthen their oral language skills, while learning about their classmates.
