These books will enhance my ability to teach reading comprehension on a deeper level. The author, Brandon Mull, is a local author and writes books that my students can relate to. I am able to incorporate many of the skills that are more difficult to teach in a shorter text. These include cause and effect, character traits, story structure, and what to do when you come to a word that you don’t know. In the past, I have had to scour the Salt Lake Valley and borrow all the books I can from the local libraries, and students have had to share books 3 or 4 students to one book. This is a project that I would like to continue to do year after year, so an investment in these books would benefit many students in the years to come. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word. Please consider helping my students grow in their love of a good book.
