I am a first year teacher at a first year charter school. This is the first time the charter system I am working for will even have an elementary campus. These supplies and resources will help to expand the knowledge of the children in my classroom and help them develop a love of learning. These basic classroom materials will help students facing severe socioeconomic disadvantage have a fighting chance. My goal is to provide these students an education that is equivalent to what they would find in a high income area and help them to break the poverty cycle by making learning a priority and something they look forward to. My students will use unifix cubes to practice counting, make visual models to learn numeracy and magnetic tiles for learning shapes as well as engineering principles. Post it easel pads will help to create anchor charts. Puppets to help develop literacy and social skills.
