I have used Scholastic Choices magazine in my classroom for two years now, paid for out of my own pocket. It is written at a level that most of my students can read and comprehend on their own; however, we usually read and discuss the articles as a class. During Distance Learning, my students who had difficulty reading the material could access the article online and the Scholastic website would read it to them. The articles cover topics that are relevant to High School students' lives. One article earlier this year was about the dangers of vaping and the lies the companies tell to get teens using their products. We turned it into a collaborative project, with the kids broken into three groups. Each one created an informative poster to share what they learned, through research, with their classmates. The kids were excited to see their posters hanging in the main hallway during Open House for all to see.
