My students come from a very diverse neighborhood in an urban setting. They represent immigrants from many countries, with the majority of the students coming from lower-income households. As I am new to the school, most of my familiarity with the children comes from the demo lesson I taught to get the job and because I live in the same neighborhood as the school. This is what I do know about them -- these children care about their community and are curious about the world around them. They have been raised in a school community that places a strong emphasis on the arts. I am sure they are as hungry for knowledge as they are creative. I can't wait to give them the tools they need to learn and express themselves!
