The transition back to school is going to be difficult for everyone. Given that many families are experiencing job losses and may not be able to afford school supplies, I want to make sure that my students can return to school with the basics such as pencils, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and a box to store them in for individual use (safety first!). Our number one priority for the return to school will be a focus on social-emotional development. Living through a pandemic is a traumatic experience, and it will be difficult for my students with special needs to process and express their emotions and feelings. I want to make sure that they feel safe and comforted in my classroom, so I've listed certain books that will be helpful when engaging in discussions about the current state of the world. Sensory tools such as chair fidgets, and seat cushions will help my students ease their anxiety throughout the day. By donating to our project, you will help ensure that my students are able to transition back to school as seamlessly as possible, while maintaining our classroom as a safe and comforting space for them.
