This past school year, I taught 4th grade math and did a lot of differentiated instruction. That means my students spent a lot of time in small group and moving from group to group every 20 minutes. I noticed that a lot of them would get really tired in the hard, standard chairs provided in the classroom. They would get antsy or restless which is understandable. This year, I have been brainstorming ways to make the classroom more inviting and comfortable for them to want to stay focused. I truly believe that flexible seating will add that extra oomph we need to get a better learning experience. My classroom already has a very zen feeling to it as it is decorated to feel like we are in or by the ocean. The flexible seating would be the ultimate touch to add to that zen feeling and keep my students engaged in their learning.
