I work at a school with over 500 students. We have four self-contained autism classrooms on our campus. We usually use an indoor motor lab during the day to get some movement breaks. This helps the students with self-regulation and behavior, as well as provides some proprioceptive feedback to their bodies. These activities such as jumping, twirling, hopping, skipping, push-ups, and running can help calm their bodies so they can go back to class ready to learn. With COVID-19 restrictions, we won’t be able to use the motor lab for a while. An outdoor Sensory Pathway made by painting activities on the blacktop would help meet that same need and doesn’t require cleaning after each use. Please help us create a safe and healthy environment for these students.
