Being such a small rural school, rich professional development continues to be out of reach. Even in a pandemic, our state is still requiring teachers to earn 20 hours per academic year. Hope and Wade King's book inspired me to overlook challenges and roadblocks and be the wild card, and I hope to share that message and 10 copies of The Wild Card with my colleagues by leading an online book club. I will encourage my colleagues to find their WHY so that when we return to school in September, we are more focused than ever to reach our students. Teachers who have a clear sense of purpose will be more willing to take risks, be authentic, and teach the curriculum in a way that will make students want to come to school.
