My special education students have severe challenges with reading and writing but they are so bright and clever. They need very explicit reading/writing instruction to enable them to learn to read with fluency and comprehension. The systematic, sequential, multi-sensory instruction they need is enhanced by the use of color-coded tiles which they manipulate to watch words come alive. Currently my instructional equipment makes it very difficult for students to see my examples and follow along. I have provided them with their own color-coded tiles but my instruction would be greatly enhanced by a document camera which will clearly display the words they are constructing and make it easy for them to see the patterns as they develop.
