Saying that the students love them is a huge understatement—they are absolutely ecstatic.\r\n\r\nThe DUPLO boxes were the very first center I introduced, and the excitement was immediate. The students were thrilled to play with them, especially the people included in the sets. They've been interacting more, talking through their ideas, and developing important social-emotional skills. Because some pieces are shared—like one car for two students—they're practicing communication, turn-taking, and sharing in a very natural way.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened the very first day we used the figures. One student picked up a little girl figure and excitedly said, \"Look, it's me!\" When I looked closer, it truly did look just like her. She was so proud and excited to see herself represented in the person she was playing with, and it was such a meaningful moment.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic tiles have been phenomenal. Students are building trains, castles, cars, and houses. One of the sets included a Ferris wheel, and I intentionally gave no instructions—just placed it out and let them explore. One little boy sat studying the picture, examining the pieces, trying different arrangements, and problem-solving step by step. You could literally see the wheels turning in his brain as he figured out what worked and what didn't. He stayed engaged far longer than I ever expected—something especially incredible for a four-year-old whose attention span at the beginning of the year was only about four minutes.\r\n\r\nI've also seen a big shift in how students work together. Instead of parallel play, they're now asking, \"Do you want to build together?\" They collaborate, build off each other's ideas, and even work through disagreements about where pieces should go. They're learning how to talk things out instead of getting upset, which is such an important life skill.\r\n\r\nThe marble works have been another huge hit. The students and I have so much fun experimenting with the pieces, lining up the holes, building towers, and racing marbles. They're still figuring things out, but their excitement and perseverance are amazing to watch.\r\n\r\nAll of these centers have given my students new ways to build, explore, and think critically while also strengthening their social-emotional skills. Thank you so much for giving my students these opportunities and for supporting their growth in such meaningful ways.","fullyFundedDate":1761925719187,"projectUrl":"project/building-brilliance-hands-on-centers-fo/9705588/","projectTitle":"Building Brilliance: Hands-On Centers for Little Creators","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Philip","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2475706_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516889558193","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-philip"},{"teacherId":2475706,"projectId":9521446,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my students. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in how our space functions and how my students experience being artists.\r\n\r\nHaving access to supplies like wipes, command strips, frames, and hanging tools has allowed us to display student artwork beautifully while also taking better care of our classroom. Students are so proud to see their work displayed, and it truly helps them experience the full range of what it means to be an artist.\r\n\r\nThe giant calendar has been a complete game changer. It has made planning much easier for me and much more visible for students. I was able to map out a large portion of the year, plan around days off and minimum days, and make sure nothing gets overlooked. The students love checking the calendar because they can clearly see what's coming up, when they have art, and what we'll be working on.\r\n\r\nThe command strips, frames, and ceiling hangers have also been incredibly helpful for organizing our space. They've allowed me to display student work and hang our star jars for positive behavior incentives. Because everything is easy to move, I can reset goals smoothly without disrupting class time, which keeps routines simple and positive.\r\n\r\nThe whiteboard markers and erasers have been a huge hit as well. I use whiteboards frequently with my kindergarten and TK students for drawing practice and center activities. The fun, fluffy erasers actually motivate students to erase—and they're much safer because students aren't tempted to put them in their mouths.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting my classroom and helping us get organized and ready for the year. The difference your support made this year was truly incredible.\r\n\r\nSimple items like tape dispensers made a big impact. Whether students were hanging up their artwork, labeling their supplies, or repairing a paper they accidentally tore while erasing, having easy-to-use, accessible tape made our classroom more efficient and independent.\r\n\r\nHaving tissues—especially during cold season—was a game changer. Both the students and I were grateful not to have to rely on rough paper towels, which can irritate the skin. The tissues were also incredibly helpful for the many bloody noses we had this year. Everyone knew exactly where to find them and felt confident they'd have what they needed.\r\n\r\nThe Command strips and wipes were lifesavers! I used the Command strips to hang towel hooks and to launch a new star chart system. Now, instead of a hard-to-track poster, we have small jars hanging on the wall. When a class earns a gold star for good behavior in art, they get to drop a star in their jar—and when they reach 10 stars, we celebrate with a party! The students are so excited to add their stars; honestly, for some of them, it's even more fun than the party itself. If I'd used tape to hang the jars, they would have fallen constantly, but the Command strips kept everything secure (maybe a little too secure—it's been tricky getting them off the wall at year's end!).\r\n\r\nThe cleaning wipes were especially helpful for our youngest students in TK and kindergarten, who are still learning how to use a sponge. The wipes gave them the independence to clean up after themselves, and gave me peace of mind knowing they could manage it. Even older students appreciated the wipes—especially after clay projects—because they helped remove the last stubborn bits from the tables and kept our workspaces clean and usable.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and support. My students absolutely love using them! Drawing has become a powerful way for them to calm down, and refocus.\r\n\r\nAt the start of the year, we began incorporating mindfulness journals into our routine. I introduced a few simple drawing exercises that students could do while focusing on their breath. For many of them, this helped start each class on a strong and centered note. While we gradually moved away from using the journals daily, several grade levels continued to benefit from the calming structure it brought to their day.\r\n\r\nWhen the Zentangle supplies arrived, we were able to take this practice to a whole new level. Now, each table in the classroom has a drawer dedicated to a Zentangle kit, complete with pens, pencils, stencils, erasers, and helpful \"how-to\" rings. Having these materials readily available allows students to dive into Zentangle practice anytime they have extra moments or when they need to regulate themselves in the art space.\r\n\r\nIt's truly wonderful to see how excited they are to use the supplies. The joy and focus they show when working on their Zentangle pieces is inspiring.
