These items for our classroom will allow students to visualize the microscopic structures that are the foundation for our world. We use Science & Engineering Practices as ways to engage and behave as we investigate our natural world. One of those behaviors includes the development and use of models. These cell models that are a component of this project will ensure students visualize the building blocks of life. The concept that everything living is made up of cells is such an abstract concept that can be difficult for students to grasp, especially since most of them have no schema of what a cell is. We spend a lot of our year discovering cells, as they are the foundation for microbiology and life science. With the help of these models, my students will be able to solidify their understanding. The microscope camera will allow me to efficiently teach students how to use a microscope. This can be a challenging idea to teach, as you are instructing students how to "see" a specimen as viewed through a microscope. This tool will be critical to SHOW them what they should be viewing, not just tell them. Using this microscope camera will especially help me meet the needs of all learners in my classroom, not just the ones who "get it" the first time.
