I teach eighth-grade language arts in San Marcos, California. Four years ago, I had my students write letters to themselves as seniors. They were written in anticipation of the excitement they would experience as young adults headed off into the big, wide world. This year has turned in a decidedly different direction for this particular group of students. These students will not get to experience all of the excitement of senior year as the rest of us have known it. Normally, these letters would be sent through district mail, and I would foot the bill for those letters going elsewhere in the world, but our schools are now closed for the foreseeable future. They already self-addressed the envelopes, and I've started the process of reaching out to them by email to find out if their addresses are the same, or if they can connect me to anyone no longer in our district. I think it would mean a lot to this very special group of kids, kids whose graduation will be forever defined by our current situation, to get just this little glimmer of normalcy and encouragement from the past. Thank you for your time and help!
