I currently only have one worn out football and basketball and a few more of these items can make such a world of difference. It will allow me to continue to create a bond with some these students through play. In addition, some of my much younger students could probably benefit a great deal more from playing with manipulative's (Lego's). These materials will make a difference with some of my students because I could spend more one on one or small group time with these students who have social emotional disabilities. While participating in these activities this will allow these students to learn how to share, get along with others students, follow directions, improve their self esteem and yes burn a little energy. I am a Behavior Interventionist and don't just have one classroom, I have to provide services to an entire school. Many of the student that I work with have been placed on behavior contracts, have IEP's or 504 plans and if they do happen to be general education students some of them are in the process of getting additional help. I am hoping that when these students are able to participate in structured activities with me during their timeout or deescalation times and once they are done they will be able to refocus on the task at hand, return to class with a new attitude thus making them more successful learners.
