Building blocks are a crucial component of the early childhood learning landscape. The blocks that I have chosen for my preschool classroom are wooden blocks with a hollow center which allows them to be large and durable, yet lighter than they otherwise would be if they were solid. Blocks help children develop logical thinking, hand-eye coordination and other motor skills, spatial relations, structural stability, physics, dramatic play, social-emotional skills, language and communication skills and more as they interact and play with them. It may seem like just play but it is purposeful play and it is how children learn.
