Having a standing desk is critical during this unprecedented time in education. I have gone from standing and circulating the room all day long, to being plunked down in front of a computer for more than 8 hours day. Not only is this exhausting, it is wreaking havoc on my body. With little district resources to purchase furniture that fit the needs of students and educators in this trying climate, we are forced to accept and suffer through the current conditions, or look elsewhere for help. With the opportunity to teach standing, rather than sitting or being hunched over my computer, I will be less exhausted and in much less pain. This will assist me in making it through the day with more energy allowing me to be more physically, emotionally and mentally available for my students. After all, they are the reason I teach!
