While many of my students were already aware of August Wilson's Pulitzer-prize winning drama, Fences, none of them were aware of the other nine plays Wilson wrote in the "Century Cycle:" ten plays, each of which discusses the experiences of African-Americans in the United States in a different decade of the 20th century. I want to teach these nine additional plays to small groups of students, who will then present the plays to one another in a unit. Perhaps one day, we'll develop this into a Century Cycle series of performances, but at the moment, I'm starting smaller. Our school already has many copies of Fences and the Piano Lesson, so I've left those out of the request.
