My autism students are preparing for adulthood while they are in high school. In order for them to succeed as independent, tax paying adult citizens of our community, they will need to have experience with job skills. With a slushy machine business my students will be able to obtain many job skills and social skills. The job and social skills that my students will use while running their own slushy machine business are: measuring and prepping the syrup and ice, cleaning out the machine daily, asking the customer what they would like, give the customer a total price, accept money and make change, learn customer service skills, count the end-of-day sales, count products on hand and order products when needed, and follow all health and sanitary procedures. The profits accrued from their business will fund all community-based instruction activities that we participate with on a weekly basis off of the school campus. The money will be spent on grocery shopping for when the students cook on Fridays, transportation, and funding for our autism department.
