Small group instruction is great for differentiating for students with different learning needs, but what are the rest of the students while I'm working with a small group? The other students need to be working independently. In second grade this is not easy, many students have just learned to read and still need a lot of support to work independently. My students love to use Lakeshore Learning activities during the workshop! These activities focus on building academic vocabulary and reading comprehension in fun ways. They are independent and self-checking, so with little assistance from me, students can be learning while I am working with a small group.
