Our students are working on becoming lifelong learners, and that title includes being lifelong readers. Many of them came to our class this year being years behind their peers in reading ability and with a lack of interest in reading. Throughout the year they have grown an immense amount and now consider themselves readers in their own right. All students recently made 2020 Reading Goals to help themselves stay accountable for how many “just right” books they are reading, and they are incredibly passionate about working towards these goals in order to grow as readers. That being said - they are reading us out of house and home! Many of our students also rely on our classroom library to provide reading material for when they are at home. Having new books in the classroom that challenge them and reflect their interests will continue to foster this love of reading and newfound ownership that they have taken in their literacy learning.
