I'm writing to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support in funding our classroom project. Thanks to your generosity, our Pre-K students now have a beautiful horseshoe-shaped table that has truly transformed our learning space.\r\n\r\nThe moment the table arrived, our classroom buzzed with excitement. The children were immediately drawn to its unique shape and vibrant presence. One student exclaimed, \"It looks like a rainbow!\"—a perfect reflection of the joy it brought. The horseshoe design allows me to sit in the center and engage with each child more personally, fostering stronger connections and more effective instruction.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving us this gift. I could hardly wait for the \"I Love Reading\" party. Students were amazed when they arrived at the classroom the next morning. Their eyes glittered and their mouths dropped as a normal Friday turned into excitement and curiosity. Our reading party had finally arrived! \r\n\r\nI wish you could've seen Kunzel's smile when she saw we were going to read a Piggie and Elephant book. Kunzel, a student with additional support needs, adores these dramatic characters. They are her favorite books to read. She giggled and smiled throughout the entire read-aloud because she knew the book by heart. \r\n\r\nWhat a fun, educational time we had! We started off discussing how reading can be fun and exciting, something we've emphasized the entire year. While reading Mo Willems We Are in a Book, I asked students to notice how my reading was filled with emotion and sounded like I was talking. We also discussed how good readers do not sound like robots. Then, after reading, we summarized and discussed what happened in the book. Next, we used the fidget tubes to segment some words with our phonics focus that week, which was beginning blends. There are pictures posted of this. My favorite part of the party was handing each student their very own Mo Willems book. They each got an Elephant and Piggie Biggie, that contained 5 different Elephant and Piggie books in one collection. As, they unwrapped their books, oohs and awes filled the air. They were in awe that the book was theirs to keep and they could take it home. Students spread out around the room and tables to read, flip through, and admire their new books. We ended our literacy party with each student opening their goody bags that included a light up ring, fruit snack, Pringles, a Piggy and Gerald sticker and their very own fidget tube to segment words at home. \r\n\r\nThank you for your generous donation that helped me to provide this experience for my kindergarten students. Because of your gift, each student will have a book to start or add to their personal home libraries. Access to meaningful, engaging texts will help them grow into lifelong readers. Each student will also have fun memories of this special day. Your generosity created more than just a party—it created memories and excitement around reading that will last far beyond that day.","fullyFundedDate":1735512519616,"projectUrl":"project/mo-love-mo-books/9010901/","projectTitle":"Mo Love, Mo Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gatlyn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9825624_orig.jpg?crop=4000,4000,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733104398156","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9825624"},{"teacherId":9825624,"projectId":8980767,"letterContent":"I literally did a happy dance when I saw the custodian rolling my table down on a dolly. I could not wait for it to be set up in my space and adjusted to fit my students. It was like a new car, shiny, sitting still, and ready to go places. I was thrilled and ecstatic that this new table would be a vehicle that would help students learn how to read. \r\n\r\nMy students had a similar reaction to the table. Within a minute of sitting down, my first-grade group paused, all at the same time, when they realized something was different. Then, in an excited tone, they asked in unison, \"Did you get a new table?\" I quickly answered, \"No, we got a new table!\" It was then that I got to explain to them that generous friends from across the country wanted to help them learn how to be better readers and provided the table for us as a gift. They were thrilled and continued to rub and inspect the table.\r\n\r\nMy new kidney table has provided a vehicle for students to work on phonemic awareness, vocabulary, phonics, sight words, writing and comprehension to name a few. Throughout the day, the table is covered with white boards and dry-erase markers to work on spelling, alphabet manipulatives to work on phoneme grapheme mapping, flashcards, word mats, trays of sand or dried peas to practice letter formation, to name a few. It has also been an intentional space for reading and decoding. I estimated that over 100 books have been opened and closed for reading on this table so far. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for funding a project that promotes literacy learning in a practical way. I am so grateful to be the recipient of such an important gift. I appreciate your desire to partner with me to help students learn how to read and fill the deficits that exist. Your generosity has made a real, lasting difference in my classroom and has also helped me give my students the reading skills they need for future academic success.","fullyFundedDate":1734358346530,"projectUrl":"project/kidney-table-building-literacy-one-rea/8980767/","projectTitle":"Kidney Table: Building Literacy, One Reading Session at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gatlyn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9825624_orig.jpg?crop=4000,4000,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733104398156","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9825624"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33469","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":522,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":27,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":63.6,"schoolId":33469,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodbrook Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodbrook Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/albemarle-county-school-district/woodbrook-elementary-school/33469"}
