My students read numerous books throughout the year, and one of their favorite activities is to share their books with the class. Because of their reviews, many students are eager to read the book recommended by their peers. We came up with this idea one day while discussing books. They wanted a way to share with the entire school. We decided in addition to broadcasting our school news, students would also give a book review at the end of the news segment. In order to do this, they wanted books that are more current and diverse. I added headphones to my wish list as well as books in the hopes our class library will grow as will their interest in reading. Hopefully, our love for books will spread throughout the entire school. Who knows, maybe our broadcasts can eventually be shared with other schools in our area. There are great books out there going unread by students. This is a travesty, and we hope to change minds and hearts.
