I would like to purchase enough copies of John Green's The Fault in Our Stars for all students in my Advanced ESL Through Literature classes. The students will keep a reading journal, engage in speaking activities such Socratic Seminars and write an essay on the book. This is a great read for young adults as the depiction of the teenage characters is authentic and heartfelt. I have found that even reluctant readers love this book. Students will write two-column notes as they read in order to make connections between themselves, the novel, other texts and the world. Every few chapters, we will engage in either student-led discussions or Socratic Seminars, Finally, the students will use the writing skills they have honed over the course of the year to write an essay on how the protagonist, as a dynamic character, has changed throughout the novel.
