It's important to me that my students build reading stamina so that they can be ready to tackle the reading they'll encounter in high school. By creating a reading culture, rich in both choice and time, every student can leave my class with more reading confidence. This project will provide several sets of engaging young adult novels that students can read in small groups as Book Clubs. Just like an adult book club, the students will read the same title and then come to class once a week ready for collegial and thought-provoking discussions. My students love my classroom library, where they can sit in our cozy little reading nook or on our classroom couch while enjoying their books. In addition to getting several novels for Book Clubs, I'm looking forward to adding new novels to our library so that students will have even more choices. Students use these books for their independent reading requirements. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow. Each title was chosen with THEM in mind. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
