These materials will be used to give my students tools to help them self-regulate when they are feeling upset, anxious, frustrated, etc. School can sometimes be a hard, loud, and stressful experience for my students. Sensory tools help students to be able to concentrate, participate, and actively learn out of the classroom. Not only will these sensory materials be used for calming purposes and self-regulation, they will also promote independence throughout the school community. Sensory tools are necessary for my students to calm down and make their educational experience better. Self-regulation is important for development; it helps children with learning and social skills. My students will utilize these tools (weighted lap blanket, fidgets, and stress balls) when they are unable to calm down on their own. These tools will help them calm down, along with myself and sharing different strategies, and get them in a good headspace to return back to class with adult support.
