Building the School Library from scratch for my students with Special Needs has been an inspiring process from its inception only 3 short years ago. We have developed a beautiful collection, but with each passing year and increased student use I realize how much diversity in preference my students have. The library collection sometimes struggles to keep up with the changes of students within the school. Continuing to grow the collection to meet the needs of our ever changing population will allow them to be inspired to read, even if that means to simply look at the beautiful illustrations within a book. Every book that is placed in our library is treated with love and care, and the students truly enjoy choosing new colorful books to read each week. All of the books that I have chosen are based on interests that my current or past students have shown. Some of the books are also based on a hole in our collection about topics like holidays or social stories. The books within our library have the ability to reach the entire school population as the teachers also utilize them within their classrooms for lessons and independent reading. I hope that you will help our colorful students to continue to see their rainbows.
