Preserving our past is the job of all citizens and not exclusive to historians. Too many stories have gone untold and too many sacrifices have been lost due to passage of unrecorded time. Our students in Ten Sleep, Wyoming, did not want this to occur to our veterans whose legacy is invaluable for future generations to understand the cost of liberty. Documenting our veteran's stories was vitally important to this group of students, and their work must be showcased and kept for posterity. These students worked tirelessly for weeks interviewing local veterans, researching wars and conflicts, and producing research papers and formal presentations. Our next step is to present these stories to the community and honor the veterans and their families. In addition to presenting these stories to the community, we want to publish our research papers into a hard-bound, color book. We are seeking funding to purchase printing supplies to make this a reality and ensure that future generations know about our warriors of freedom. Part of my classroom budget and the budget of the social studies teacher was used to purchase supplies such as paper and bindings, but we are in need of ink to print the books in color. Because our district is so small, funding for special projects like this is hard to come by.
