Every young student dreams of painting on canvas, like a famous artist would. It is a special, memorable experience for children, different than painting on paper. Having the opportunity to paint on an individual canvas and create a special painting in which a student can take pride helps me show my students that I believe in their artistic abilities and I value what they want to communicate to the world, continuing their social-emotional and academic learning in light of COVID-19. Although we are experiencing uncertainty and instability, I want my students to know that their voices, their dreams, their ideas, and their emotions always matter. It will be a special moment for students to connect to self and others, both in the classroom and at home as they bring their creations out of school and into their community.
