Student as AIS are learning real-world skills in Basic Skills Class. This project is designed to help my students learn how to overcome the adversity of poverty by learning to grow food using a school community garden as their classroom. We will grow the food in our courtyard, so students will drop the technology for a few minutes, reconnect with nature, and learn real world skills that will serve them later in life. Teaching in 2020 is so much more than standardized curriculum; there is a real world out there and many things such as the art of gardening are losing their intrigue. I want to teach my students self-sufficiency along with the 3R's.
