All of our students have to complete service learning projects with their class. This is community service to show students that they can make a difference, no matter their circumstances. During class, we will complete a unit in Science on Positive Aging. The purpose of this lesson is to to promote positive attitudes about aging, to enhance understanding of the aging process, and to develop familiarity and skills in dealing with issues of an aging society. The students will complete extensions of this unit in their Civics and English classes as well, with the other Diverse Learner teacher. The students will pack care packages with personal handmade notes for a senior citizen building that we will be visiting in Chicago. The packages will include the supplies that I have requested, and the students will pack 30 bags for the residents. The students will deliver the bags and play a few board games and coloring pages with the residents.
