I am working with the mental health staff at my school to open up our classroom during lunch to provide a space for students to come in and socialize. We hope to provide a safe and fun environment where students can learn how to properly socialize with one another as well as meet some of our support staff on campus. Our counseling room is currently only used for counseling purposes however we want to welcome all students into our space so that they know there is a space on campus where they are safe and can be heard.
Our goal is to bring in student who may have trouble making friends, students who may be new to the school or the district, or students who struggle with social skills. We want to model appropriate play and provide a space where students can learn how to solve conflict with support from adults. The materials requested would allow to provide a comfortable seating area for our students who may need a break and relax during their lunch time. We want our class to feel comfortable to all and for it to be a place any student would want to come in and hang out in.
