In our Spanish class, we won't just read a book as class and answer comprehension questions: we'll play games, act it out, connect to the characters and learn about different parts of the world. I've chosen these two books for their ability to connect to my students' lives while also providing an opportunity to learn about a part of the Spanish speaking world. There is nothing more empowering and motivating than realizing you understand another language! My students love the stories I tell them in Spanish, often getting emotionally involved with the characters we discuss. They are ready for a challenge of reading an entire chapter book for novice Spanish learners.
