In this middle school United States History course, students are required to understand the impact of the changes of the early 20th century. It is my goal and responsibility as their teacher to enhance my students' learning experience by providing them endless examples of how African Americans inspired and responded to those changes. Making Our Way Home by Blair Imani is a beautifully illustrated narrative of the Black American Dream. The book spans from Reconstruction Era to the late 1970s with an emphasis on the impact of the Great Migration. In the foreword to the book, Patrisse Cullors writes "may this book be a reminder of the sacrifices made by the generations before us." It is necessary that my students are exposed to these stories of resilience, sacrifice, bravery and liberation that Imani provides in Making Our Way Home.
