These books are on grade level for students and will help them grow as readers and thinkers both in the classroom and out in the real world. Each of these texts is engaging and applicable to modern life, and each is written by someone who is more representative of my students' communities. By having more interesting books to read, students will see how reading isn't a stale, antiquated process, but is instead a way to engage with the world around us and to understand not only the injustices. They will begin to make connections to other content areas and experience a true cross-curricular education.
