Since we have finished covering the basic concepts of 2D animation, my students are excited to begin demonstrating what they've learned by creating their own pieces. Unfortunately, we are currently being slowed in this process, as our students outnumber our drawing tablets! The result of this is that kids must either wait and take turns using the tablets we have, or attempt to digitally draw using only a mouse. Neither of these solutions are adequate. Animation is very time-consuming, so students are left rather aimless if they wait. Drawing on a digital canvas using a mouse is extremely difficult, which stifles creativity. This process generates a large amount of wasted time overall, and detracts from the overall experience and benefit of the club. If every student were able to work with their own drawing tablet, these issues would be erased and productivity would soar! With these drawing tablets, each of my students will be able to utilize their creativity to the max. They will be able to spend as much time on animation as possible. A lack of time spent waiting will mean a learning environment that is more encouraging and less distracting. The longer an imagination is left unstemmed, the greater the animation it can produce! My belief is that, with my students able to animate at all times thanks to these drawing tablets, we will grow - as a club and individually as animators!
