The books on the list go with a reading curriculum. These books will be used as a weekly read aloud to 1st grade students. The students then will be able to do activities based on these books. The activities will build their comprehension skills and work on life lessons that go with these books. Reading students books aloud has many benefits. Research shows that read alouds build student's vocabulary, fluency, longer attention span, provides enjoyment and many more benefits. Helping these students in poverty learn to love reading at a young age will make them become more successful adults. Reading is the key to success!
