My students are all struggling with many mental health concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and on top of that, COVID-19 making their school and home lives unpredictable and inconsistent. Students at the high school can utilize these coping items for when they are stressed and anxious and need help calming down. I help students create personal sensory toolboxes, which are containers that have items that help calm students using the 5 senses. Many students don't have the money or resources to get these items on their own and it would be hugely beneficial if I can help them start off their sensory toolboxes with a container and some purposeful items. Students are building coping skills in my office every day and they are developing understanding and awareness of their emotions and the importance of mental health. I want to be able to reinforce this in anyway I can with items that support their mental health and help them understand how to manage their symptoms and succeed at school.
