We are going to host a STEM family night for all of the students in our building. Students and family members will have opportunities in coding, robotics, engineering design as well as several STEM activities. We also want all families to leave our event with a take home STEM kit to continued the learning. In addition, we would like to add a bang to the night by offering door prizes to the families that come. This funding will provide for both the door prizes as well as the STEM kits. My students will benefit from this because a) they will get to interact with STEM activities with their families and share in some joy while engaging in learning, b) they will get to take home a STEM kit allowing them to continue learning at home and c) they will have high motivation in hopes of winning a door prize. Family engagement is a big push in our district. We are learning the research behind getting parents more comfortable with the learning their child is engaging in while with us. Through the professional learning we've had around family engagement, we've learned the importance of helping parents understand what activities they can engage with at home that will support the learning of their child.
