The lysol sprays have already been opened and used to disinfect pillows and the wipes have been used on surfaces to help keep the space clean. The pencils are always a must and used daily so those have been great to utilize especially if we don't want 24 students up all at once to sharpen their pencils. The pre-sharpened pencils have been great to easily pass around and helps the transitions smoother in our class. Since the first week back is usually to practice expectations and non-heavy academic schedule, a lot of coloring has been occurring, which is great since we have new crayons to utilize. Our community is very diverse and some families struggle to supply for every child, so some of the materials like disinfectant wipes, pencils, or even crayons are hard for every student to bring in. These supplies that have been donated, I use as \"community supplies\" so students who don't have them, can help themselves to them to participate in our class activities.\r\n\r\nI gathered the materials up as they came and took a picture of the supplies and showed every students what the class was donated. The question I received the most was, \"Why did they give us that stuff?\" and I would tell them it was because people wanted to contribute to the classroom and make sure everybody had plenty of supplies to get by in that school year. \r\n\r\nIn a lesson all of 5th grade is working on for writing is creating a riddle about themselves. Once they have the writing piece done with a paragraph about themselves, the students created a picture of themselves. This included drawing, coloring, and at the end, they needed to glue it onto construction paper. The materials we received contributed to making this project successful because every student had access to pencils for the writing, the colors for coloring, and the glue to glue their picture on a piece of construction paper. Since I am a first year teacher, this resource has helped immensely and I cannot thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1750543538645,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-necessities/9421320/","projectTitle":"Classroom Necessities!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10019023"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51131","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":822,"numTeachers":57,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"2 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":53.8,"schoolId":51131,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Storm Lake Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Storm Lake Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/storm-lake-community-school-district/storm-lake-elementary-school/51131"}
