Our school has approximately 300 students in Pre-School through 8th Grade. Our student population is primarily African-American and approximately 25% of our students are English Language Learners. We also serve students from Central and South America, and from several African countries. We are a Title 1 school with 60% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch through the Federal School Lunch Program. My students are English Language Learners (ELLs) in Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Our school is an arts integration school where all content is meant to be learned through the arts. This can be a particularly effective approach for ELLs. My students are incredibly sweet and creative and creating art gives them a way to develop their language and participate in the school community even when their language skills are lacking. Because of the economic downturn, our school budget has been frozen and there is little to no money to buy supplies for classes.
