My art lessons are typically centered on big ideas or concepts that allow for students to derive meaning from their artwork as well as the work of famous artists. Because this is our focus, students sometimes lack the step-by-step technical drawing skills that focus on technique over meaning. For this reason, I am creating a two-week program in which students focus on these techniques. Our "Art Class Boot Camp" experience will provide students with a fast-paced, fun learning experience in which they improve their technical drawing skills. It will incorporate videos and practice opportunities to draw specific objects such as faces, hands, trees, dogs, etc. Using this theme, students will gradually move up their military rankings from private to general by completing these practice drawings and other learning goals. Students will also participate in a "Vocab Jeopardy" game, which will facilitate teamwork and knowledge building. The winning team will move up a ranking as their reward. The decorations will allow for the classroom transformation and the small prizes will motivate students to do their best work.
