All materials are for our upcoming geometry unit. I have chosen differentiated manipulatives so students can play with the physical shapes. These materials will allow each student to be able to physically see, touch, and feel each shape while manipulating them in different activities. Each student will be presented with a concrete meaning of the abstract idea of geometry. These manipulatives will help bring a sense of understanding new concepts that they are going to learn. This includes how all items are basic geometric shapes. Geometric manipulatives assist each student in solving complex problems. Each student will be challenged by the tangrams puzzles by trying to make the following: a triangle out of the seven tangram pieces, a rectangle that is not a square, a parallelogram that is not a square. All of these manipulatives will help develop problem-solving, logistical thinking, creativity, geometrical concepts, spatial relationships as well as providing a positive relationship with math.
