My school does not have a library. I rely on my classroom collection to inspire a love of learning. I scour book sales looking for donations, and I have kind friends who help, but what my students truly crave I rarely find: manga, graphic novels, and books with diverse protagonists. It is my goal to connect every learner I meet with the perfect book. I have made selections geared specifically for the readers I see each day. Besides books, we need pencils and post-its to keep track of our reading. I also am asking for an exercise ball for my reading nook and for headphones for audio books. I serve a city school, short on resources. Students often do not have the supplies they need, and they have limited access to books and libraries. Many are not allowed to walk to their local library because it is unsafe. It is crucial that I supply the materials they need to learn, grow, and develop into life longer lovers of lit!
