The new mathematics curriculum that was adopted offers students valuable opportunities for reflection and conceptual understanding of concepts. It has created valuable experiences with an opportunity for students to tap into their creativity and challenge their thinking. As a teacher of language learners I continue to ask myself, how can I make a curriculum that is dependent on story telling and text visual for students that are in an EL setting? Students will continue to develop their understanding through visuals that will come from graphing through technology. Having this technology in school and at home will provide students another level of support. The use of technology is essential to understanding and visualizing different mathematical concepts. These calculators will become a resource that students can use to develop their understanding as well as to communicate what they know. Students will work on developing skills in their Integrated Math I class that they will carry into other math classes. This will include using the calculator to enhance learning as well as strengthen communication.
