In my school district, teachers are provided with 1 laptop. In order to access our work in the evenings and on weekends, the district allows us to take these home for after hours productivity. I use this laptop for all school work including writing IEP's, testing students, writing lesson plans, etc....This is the same laptop that I hook up to my Promethean Board every day for interactive activities, visual cues and lesson presentations. When I am called away to a meeting, or out sick, my students no longer have access to our interactive smart board. Please help us keep my students' use of technology consistent! The disabilities that my students face limit the ways in which they access curriculum and demonstrate their knowledge. The world of technology has opened them up to a whole new world. For my students with visual impairments, our interactive smart board allows my students to see things on a large scale that is normally not visible to them with traditional paper materials. For my students with motor challenges, the touch screen on our smart board allows them to use large motor movements for tracing and writing which they may not have physical control for with traditional paper and pencil tasks. My students with attention deficits are always more engaged in activities when they can interact with colorful, musical or animated activities that they can see, hear and touch on a large scale.
