Years ago I learned that I had acid-reflux and over the years the medication didn't seem to make a difference. I began looking for an alternative ways to heal myself and I found yoga and meditation. My school has many students that are homeless, live with other adults than their parents, have parents that are incarcerated, or come from single parent households. I want to share the gift of yoga and meditation with these students to boost their self-esteem and to help them learn how to self-regulate their behaviors prior to transitioning to a general education setting in the fall. I have started doing some yoga with the students and have noticed that their concentration and self esteem have gone up. Being able to attend this professional development opportunity will help me become a model to guide my school community through using yoga, wellness and meditation to strengthen their coping skills.
